Environmental Life-Cycle Assessment and Life-Cycle Cost Analysis of a High-Rise Mass Timber Building: A Case Study in Pacific Northwestern United States

Global construction industry has a huge influence on world primary energy consumption, spending, and greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions. To better understand these factors for mass timber construction, this work quantified the life cycle environmental economic performances of high-rise building in U.S. Pacific Northwest region through use life-cycle assessment (LCA) cost analysis (LCCA). Using TRACI impact category method, cradle-to-grave LCA results showed relative to conventional concrete building, with 3153 kg CO2-eq per m2 floor area compared 3203 area, respectively. Over 90% GHGs emissions occur at operational stage 60-year study period. The end-of-life recycling could provide carbon offset 364 that lowers GHG total 12% lower than building. LCCA had $3976 was 9.6% higher driven mainly by upfront costs related material. Uncertainty product pricing provided pathway builders make buildings competitive. integration can contribute more information decision makers such as developers policymakers.
